What is a Psychic?

A psychic is a person who uses extrasensory perception to provide people with insight into their lives. Many people turn to psychics for guidance and direction in their personal lives, as well as for signs from loved ones who have passed on. A lot of the time, a psychic will focus on getting answers about a customer’s past, present or future, and will help them find ways to solve their problems.

Many people are skeptical of psychics, however, it is reported that 4 out of 10 believe that psychics exist and billions of dollars are spent yearly on psychic services. Psychics are commonly seen on television and in the movies, for example Raven Baxter from the Disney Channel series That’s So Raven and her twin sister Booker are portrayed as psychics whose visions contrast with their personalities (Cara is a goth who sees negative visions and Sara is more positive and optimistic).

There are many different types of psychic readings and some use different methods of deception to get information. One of the most common methods is cold reading where a psychic will throw out a broad question to the audience and attempt to gather information from the crowd. Other methods include hot reading where a psychic will call or text someone ahead of time to get information about them. Some psychics are known to use these tactics in their readings and have earned a bad reputation, but others will only reveal the information that is requested.
